Kenan Thompson is hinting that there’s going to be “a lot of change” next season at Saturday Night Live regarding casting.

While recently speaking with Page Six, the comedian and longtime SNL castmember called the historic 50th season ending, which concluded with host Scarlett Johansson’s episode on May 17, “bittersweet.”

“Especially this year where it feels like there’s maybe, possibly, a lot of change next year,” Thompson continued, adding, “You want everyone to stay forever, knowing that people may be making decisions this summer … it’s always like you want your kids to stay young.”

While nothing has been publicly confirmed regarding SNL casting for season 51, rumors have been swirling online of a cast shakeup. As for Thompson, who has been with the NBC sketch comedy show since season 29 in 2003, he shared that he has yet to sign a contract for the upcoming season.

“You just never know what the future holds,” he explained. “I don’t want to be in the way of someone else or I don’t want to be the stale old man riding the same thing. That doesn’t really happen that much at SNL, but there’s no guarantees, I guess.”

Some fans have been speculating who could potentially be departing after the latest season, though SNL likely won’t reveal any changes to its 17-member cast until closer to the season 51 premiere in early fall. However, a shakeup is possible, especially as some castmembers, including Thompson, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim, have been on the show for seven or more seasons.
