IFC is headed on a couple’s retreat with Jason Segel and Samara Weaving. The indie outfit has taken the United States rights to Over Your Dead Body, a feature following a dysfunctional couple who head to a remote cabin to reconnect, but who secretly have a plan to kill the other.
IFC will give a wide release to the project, with international rights up for grabs at Cannes.
The film hails from Jorma Taccone, the Saturday Night Live alum and member of the Lonely Island comedy trio. He is also known as the filmmaker behind Pop Star: Never Stop Stopping and MacGruber.
Scribes Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney adapted the script from the Norwegian cult thriller I Onde Dager. The cast also including Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle and Keith Jardine.
87North, the stunt-heavy shingle run by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick, will produce with XYZ and Resolute Films.
Segel broke out on the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother and has a long career in features, with credits including Forgetting Sarah Marshal and The Muppets. He co-stars with Harrison Ford on the Apple TV+ series Shrinking.
Coming up, Weaving has the sequel to her cult horror hit Ready or Not.

The acquisition come as IFC has pushed more into genre films in recent years, with titles such as Late Night with the Devil setting an opening weekend record for the outfit in 2023. That record was recently topped by Clown in a Cornfield, which bowed to $3.6 million earlier this month.
