The alleged off-field wrongdoing of Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Brett Favre is explored in the trailer for the Netflix documentary Untold: The Fall of Favre, which dropped on Tuesday.
In the preview, ex-New York Jets Gameday host Jenn Sterger opens up about her claims Favre sent her unwanted lewd texts and photos during the 2008 NFL season. “Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life,” Sterger says at one point in the trailer.
Rebecca Gitlitz, director of the latest installment of the Netflix Untold series, in a statement explains the documentary is about a legendary quarterback not being held to account for alleged misbehavior away from the game. “This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins and lifts the lid on how when fame rises, sometimes accountability falls. It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions, to ask audiences to consider if success should be a shield for harmful behavior,” Gitlitz said.
“Ultimately, the film challenges all of us to consider when we let our heroes go too far, who is to blame? And when the dust settles, can we have honest conversations about the humanity of all of those involved,” she added.
Favre as a retired NFL quarterback in 2024 revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He made the disclosure to a congressional committee as part of his testimony about a welfare misspending scandal in Mississippi he was caught up in.
Untold: The Fall of Favre will debut on Netflix on May 20. The documentary from EverWonder Studio, Front Office Sports and Time Studios is executive produced by Ian Orefice, Gitlitz, Jonna McLaughlin, Amanda Spain, Dave O’Connor, Loren Hammonds, Jon Wertheim, A.J. Perez, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Chapman Way and Maclain Way.
