Lux Pascal is gushing over her older brother and his Hollywood domination.
Pascal, whose acting credits include Chilean dramas Veinteañero a los 40 and Juana Brava, is the younger sister of Pedro Pascal and caught up with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of Madrid’s Platino Awards Sunday night, Ibero-America’s annual film and television awards ceremony.
It turns out, the younger Pascal sibling tells THR, that the Fantastic Four and The Last of Us star is truly just as brilliant as fans think he is. “I’m incredibly proud,” Lux said. “But the thing is that I’ve always known that he is a superstar. It’s funny because people have been asking me, ‘Is he as kind as we think he is?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes!’”
Pedro Pascal recently made headlines for calling Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling a “heinous loser” for her support of the U.K.’s legal dial-back on what defines a woman. Last week, Britain’s Supreme Court made a landmark ruling that trans women should not be recognized as women and that “sex” should legally mean biological sex. Lux, who grew up alongside her brother and two more siblings in Chile before moving to the U.S., came out as a transgender woman in 2021.
“What makes him so fabulous is that [Pedro] wears all of his humanity on his sleeve, and he doesn’t hide who he is. And I think that’s refreshing, because usually we move around the world hiding who we are. That’s the main lesson I’ve gotten from him: there’s no reason for me to hide who I am, right? And I think people are seeing that.”
Amid a tumultuous time for the trans community and increasingly tense political climate in the States, the younger Pascal sibling said she is trying to “wait it out”.
“Maybe it’s not a good idea, but I’m focusing in my work. I’m doing stuff, and I want to keep my focus in that, and hopefully the storm will cease. But I’m grateful, and I’m extremely privileged, and I think that continuing that route will help other people think with more ease. It is a difficult time, and I wish it wasn’t as difficult. I mean, we just went through a pandemic. Can we all just chill for a while and show empathy towards one another? I don’t know, maybe I’m too much of a romantic.”
The younger Pascal sibling also teased her introduction into the U.S. film and television industry. “I have two projects coming out, and I filmed one… I can’t really give details of what’s coming up. But yes, I do have projects coming up in the United States, and I’m excited.”
Latin America’s 12th edition of the Platino Awards take place Sunday night in Madrid, Spain.
